NBC. Eight couples. Restaurant wars. Marco Pierre White, a British chef with ridiculous shoes and terrible, terrible hair. I hear he once made Gordon Ramsey cry, although I don’t know if it was from scathing criticism or a sharp kick in the nuts. I’m watching to see if it’s worthwhile. Are you?
Thoughts in the comments. Based on the snap judgment I’ve just made, it could actually be decent and White has some mentor-esque tendencies, although I’m sure NBC will insist he break the spirits of several contestants before seasons’ end.
If the 13% of people who thought liveblogging was worthwhile find it amusing, perhaps there will be some blogging of the live variety. If not, we silently judge and move on with our lives.
One Year Ago: Cliffhanger!
Oh, I’m watching. I’m in Top Chef withdrawal and my Wednesdays are sadly foodie free without this show. Marco Pierre White is a character and a half, so this should be at least moderately interesting unless the producers are total hacks.
so far….meh. Just more knee jerk crap tho. fitting these people into little boxes of cooking. He just said, “if you had served me this in your home, I would have been touched. If you had served it to me in a restaurant, I’d be pissed.”
WTF?! people dont want comfort food, or food that transports them to a good place? home cooked style? I happen to think the next “Foodie fad” is peasant food, so that puts me in a good place…lol Food for the people YO
With TC gone and Lost on hiatus I did manage to sneak a peak. Not too bad, but I was distracted by Peters constant cheers regarding strategically placed US Food products. Next week we segregate.
Yup, I watched it because hubby told me he was the only person to ever make Gordon Ramsay cry, lol. What’s not to love about that? No telling the kind of holds NBC will impose on him and/or the show. However, I’ve ALWAYS liked the bad boys.
😉
I had no interest in this show until reading that this cat made Gordon cry. Suddenly, I find myself setting my DVR.
The intro to the show was so overly dramatic, I was about to shoot the television. I was able to compose myself however and watch the whole thing. I think it’s a shame the brothers with the wierd rhyming names got a reprieve. And what’s up with the dude who left because it wasn’t all peace, love, and understanding in the kitchen? Has he never worked in a restaurant before? I’m already hooked, and I’m keeping track of how many contestants say, “This is a competition, and I’m in it to win.” duh….
okay, i think i might give it a blogging go next week. it’s not top chef, but it isn’t hell’s kitchen either (blech). so we’ll see how it goes.
Marco Pierre White used to be smokin’ hot.
Its a bad semi-ripoff of the BBC2 programme “The Restaurant” with Raymond Blanc. Its OK but no Top Chef or Hells Kitchen, no chance for personalities to come through but I’ll still watch it even if its just to laugh at how Marco has been designered up since his last couple of shows; give Wardrobe a raise 🙂
Yay live blogging! (Please) I didn’t want to like it, but I accidentally watched this week as there was nothing else on, and I believe I will accidentally watch next week as well.
heather, i require proof.
brian, i though he was the host of the english version? i’ll watch it, mostly because of the top chef void and the fact that i just can’t get into hell’s kitchen at all.
teacher, yes, i may “accidentally” remember that it is on at 8pm EST and watch as well. i may also accidentally have my computer on my lap.
Marco only took over the latest series of HKUK and isn’t as good as Ramsey i think. HK is different in UK due to the contestants being amateurs and less skilled than the US version. Same with Top Chef, no equivalent in the UK except Masterchef (good programme) but that once again is all amateurs. Probably something to do with a lesser restaurant/eating out culture in the UK
Okay, this isn’t as good as Top Chef, nor is it even Hell’s Kitchen, but I’m watching. I’m a food show ADDICT – and there is something about MPW’s demeanor that is downright sceeeery (enough to keep me hooked). But michelle, girfren, what you got against Vans? 😉 MPW is just Spicoli-en a little, lol!
Marco Pierre White is possibly one of the most influential British chefs of modern times. He’s as hard as nails and made Ramsey cry. I repeat, he made Ramsey cry. He’s also a local boy.
And, for the record, I love his hair.
