Awesome Shit You Get Monday: Blogoversary Edition

It’s Thursday Night Smackdown’s third birthday!

When I started, I never EVER thought TNS would become what it has been – that it would be such a big part of my life, that people would actually pay attention, that it would lead to the opportunities it has, that I would meet the amazing people I’ve met.

This is, of course, all thanks to you, my fabulous readers.

To say thank you, I’m giving away two cookbooks of a reader’s choice from the Smackdown Book Index. Just leave a comment on this post before midnight on Friday. Number generator Brian will pick someone at random, and s/he will get whichever two cookbooks his or her little heart desires (I’m happy to offer recs, of course).

Thank you thank you thank you! TNS readers are the best readers there are.

  1. Wow! That is very generous of you. Normally I read your blog to get a good belly laugh for the day (and learn a few new creative uses for swear words). *BONUS* Today I discover I can win shit! How cool is that? Oh, your recipes rock too.

  2. Happy Blogoversary! TNS has kept me company through a lot of boring days at work and given me a lot of great recipe ideas over the last 3 yeas. Thanks and here’s to many more!

  3. Happy blog birthday! I got here through a sidebar type link from cakewrecks and have been hooked ever since – your comments about Down Home With The Neely’s made me a fan for life!

  4. Reading your blog is probably the big reason I started mine. Occasionally I’m as funny as you are most of the time; working on getting my frequency up! Thanks!

  5. Oooh, exciting! Nice way to lure me out of lurking :) And I didn’t get *nearly* enough cookbooks for Christmas this year. Thanks!

  6. That’s an awesome thing. Yay cookbooks! Yay Thursday Night Smackdown!

(Also, by the way, yay that grown up strawberry shortcake and the bacon toffee and and and…)

  7. Happy blogoversary! I’m so glad that you’ve been here for another year to inspire me to cook new and interesting things, and to make me laugh so hard it’s embarrassing sometimes.

Thank you for the chance to enter, too! I need some new cooking inspiration.

  8. Yay for the Blogoversary! I just made part of a TNS recipe last night, as it happens (the white beans from the Jamie Oliver white bean and fillet) and it ruled.

  9. Congrats on your 3rd anniversary! Love the list of cookbooks. Picking two is going to be a tough choice. Here’s to many more!

  10. Happy Blog-o- versary! I found this site for the Top Chef recaps several seasons ago but kept coming back and now come every day and laugh. Thanks Michelle!!

  11. Happy Blogoversary Michelle! Your site just keeps getting better and better! You always make me laugh and drool simultaneously. Lemme tell ya, that’s hell on the keyboard. Here’s to many more years!!!

  12. Food and swearing…a great combination, and one that’s kept me coming back regularly for about a year now. Congrats on the blogoversary!

  13. Happy blogoversary! I love your site and especially love the recipies. Cookbooks would be nice, but I have fun trying to recreate the dishes from your pictures. :)

  14. Happy blogaversary Michelle! I found your blog a couple of months ago and have been a loyal reader (erm, stalker) since. I swear, your liveblogging of Top Chef is what gets me through the week sometimes.

  15. Happy Blogoversary! I have enjoyed this blog for like ever. Even if I don’t win, can you recommend an asian cookbook? Hubs likes to use his wok but the Bittman recipes he uses are consistently ‘meh’.

  16. Happy Blogoversary! I just started my own food blog and I have shamelessly styled myself after you…I can only hope to make others laugh as much as you’ve made me snicker and snort my way through the last few years!

  17. Congratulations on another blogoversary! Well done!
I enjoy this blog SO much, especially the Top Chef live blogging – makes me laugh every time. Thanks, and I hope you’ll keep it up for many more years.

PS – I just signed up for Blogher Food in Atlanta. What do you think?

  18. I love the recipes you post, how good they turn out, and how sometimes recipes that sound great don’t turn out very good, no matter what you do. And I very much enjoy the pictures of the process

  19. Woo hoo! Congrats!

Hey, are you ever going to bring back the thing where we have to cook stuff and write it up? I could use a kick in the pants, motivation-wise.

  20. Me and luck-of-the-draw haven’t exactly been BFFs in the past, but what the heck–it’s cookbooks! I’m already deluding myself about it not actually being a 5-day work week, so I might as well also delude myself about something that has a potentially positive result while I’m at it. Happy blogoversary – thanks for sticking around!

  21. Wow, congrats on three years! This blog is definitely one of my favorites. I can’t remember how many times I’ve read a post out loud to my husband because it cracked me up so much.

  22. Happy Anniversary! I am so glad a friend recommended your blog to me. And I just ordered the perfect scoop on amazon! (on your rec) I can’t wait for it to arrive.

Best wishes for many more years of cooking and writing! :)

  23. Congrats! Glad you’ve stuck it out through the years! I hope to be reading your words for many more years to come!

  24. Happy Blog Birthday! Blog-iversary? Eh, thanks for the giggles, the recipes, the Awesome things to want…I don’t even remember how, but you are now daily required reading!

    Enjoy the day!

  25. Happy Blogoversary from a fellow North Jerseyite (born and raised in Elizabeth and Newark, the armpit of the country!)
:) Miserichik :) – who just made your lime/garlic/cumin skirt steak with pico de gallo last night and wow’ed her picky eater hubby !

  26. Happy Blog(o/a/i?)versary!!! I’m so glad I stumbled upon your spot, it’s the only blog I can manage to consistently remember that I like!

  27. Happy anniversary to my favorite food blog. You are stilll the only blog I subscribe to and actually follow on every post. Keep JC delicious!

  28. Thanks for the chance to win! I never really found any blogs that were worth keeping longer than a week or two before this one. Thanks for all the work!

  29. Whoa! Just when I thought TNS couldn’t get better, you go and do this. Thanks for the laughs and the inspiration. This gets me through the week (and encourages me to push my guy out of the kitchen periodically so *I* can cook).

  30. Congragulations! And wow, 2 books even. What a great giveaway! I wish you many many more, especially since it wouldn’t be Top Chef without reading your commentary. Your blog is the best part of that show, seriously.

  31. You’re the reason I am so sleepy on Thursday mornings at work. I have to watch the later showing of Top Chef after my choir practice, and then I MUST read your liveblog after! It is worth the sleepiness.

  32. Happy blogoversary!

I look forward to your posts, especially the liveblog. You should blog the new trainwreck that is Worlds Worst Cook… it would be spectacular.

  33. Happy blogoversary! I love this blog. It mixes my two favorite things: honest commentary on food and salty languages.

  34. Happy Blogoversary! Your combination of wit and kitchen skills make me wish I was in a country where ovens were standard issue!

  35. Not that I want to be all like ‘I’m only commenting when there’s something in it for me’, but: congratulations! TNS has become my go-to food blog for inspiration and snarky humor, and I hope you’ll continue to delight us for many years to come!

  36. TNS continues to remind me where my inspiration for blogging came from, thank you. In this case I’ve already had my fun just by perusing the list and thinking about which cookbooks I’d want…

  37. Happy Blogoversary! This site makes my day; sometimes I go back and re-read the archives if I haven’t blown any tea out my nose yet that morning. Also, to make myself hungry (not that I ever really need help with that). Thank you for sharing your food, your Awesome Shit, and those parts of your life you care to. Not to be to gack-y but you’re rather inspiring.

  38. Happy 3rd Blogoversary. I still bow down before you for the eggs en cocotte recipe. I have gained about 10lbs this year and I swear it’s from eating those suckers.

  39. Wow! You have the blogoversary, and we get the gifts! How cool is that?? Very cool, I must say, as are your funny, informative, and often touching posts. Thanks for three great years, and here’s to many more.

  40. Happy Blogoversary!!!! I have been reading for the last year and a half and I absolutely love it. Awesome shit that I want mondays is one of my fave bits… it almost makes mondays at work bearable…Thanks for the motivation to keep earning money so I can spend it :D

  41. Happy Blogaversary. You have made me laugh, cry, cook some really awesome shit…and inspire me to start my own blog. It won’t be as cool as yours, but I can dream. Thanks!

  42. I came for the top chef liveblogs two years ago. I have stayed for the great photos and the posts that make me laugh.

  43. A friend directed me to your site for the live top chef blogging (awesome) and I have found so much more here:) Congrats!

  44. Congrats! I am totally impressed you have made it 3 years.

I wish I was as awesome as you, but clearly I am not. I don’t have the focus.

Here is to 3 more years at a bare minimum.

  45. You make me laugh. I love reading the comments on Thursday morning and see who won – I never make it past the quickfire – I always fall asleep. sigh

  46. How generous! Thank you! I love reading your blog. I have to close my office door while reading it so the other lawyers in my firm don’t try to seek out and destroy the laughter. Love it!

  47. Dammit my wife says I have to swear when I comment on your damn blog, so shit. Happy blogoversary or some shit like that. :-)

  48. Thanks and congratulations on a great site! I am pretty sure you will be singlehandedly responsible if I ever muster the courage to cook something.

  49. Happy Anniversary! Thank you for three years of snark, gorgeous food that I want to make RIGHT NOW, and adorable, yet heinously overpriced, ceramics. Keep it coming for many more years!
