@cayenne - Thanks, I'll hunt down a bottle of LS and try it!

Unfortunately, while I have no moral objection to eating bacon, it's been long enough since I last ate any that there would definitely be a digestive objection. Sexy, no?

@Maria - how about adding some liquid smoke? I'd think it would at least add some of the depth of flavour you get from bacon.

I went through a veg-only period during university & went into bacon/pork withdrawal. The first meat product I ate when I wised up was almost half a pound of prosciutto. Life is no fucking good without bacon - can you make a leeeetle exception?

To quote another kitchen goddess brought to us courtesy of The Food Network, "Yum-o!" Sorry, couldn't help myself. I don't really believe RR is a kitchen goddess, but I do believe this dish sounds fabulous, and I can't wait to try it.

Hee. I sent this post to my best friend, told her I wanted it NOW. She reminded me I'm a vegetarian, and wondered if I was going back to the Bacon side. Sheeeeit.

Any of y'all learned cooks have a bacon-substitution suggestion? I'm not vegan, just don't eat meat. Thanks!

cat, nope, you were first. comments usually don't get sent to moderation 'round here unless they're full of links. profanity is condoned, nay, encouraged.

kay, do! around here, we're still flush with squash.

peggy, you mean i wasn't your previous favorite blog?

jodi, don't hurt yourself with the vegetable peeler.

geeking, i have to put an egg on EVERYTHING. it's how i roll. what time it is when you check the blog out, that's a personal problem.

emily, if i could stick a "fuck yeah" flag on your comment, i would.

platemate, i think i'm going to south beach it for two weeks when i get back from blogher to detox, and i have a feeling this will appear on the menu again (assuming the continued proliferation of squash).

maria, glad you like it. but there were no leftovers, sorry.

syd, i don't even know what the fuck a titan peeler IS.

jlh, that is so true, and makes the whole thing even more worth it. now if only someone would test that out...

syd again, bingo!

amy, thanks. it's because of the product.

that was a terrible un-pun, i apologize,

emily again, vindication! thank you.

jenny, you're welcome for the blog. i write it just for you!

i'm a little bummed i forgot the lemon and thyme in this, i think it would have bumped it up. sounds like you could just dump a poached egg on yours, and it'd also be good!

Wow. We will be making those at our house very soon. I do a thing with carrot and squash ribbons in a lemon-butter-horseradish sauce that is delicious, but more of a side dish.

Thanks for the awesome blog.
