So, I had to watch this on Tivo last night (was out of town Wednesday). One glaring omission from this episode: Ashley’s self-righteousness over the fact that gays aren’t allowed in the military (after she got all butthurt about having to do a wedding challenge merely one episode ago). Where’s her indignation now? Huh?

In my house, we tell the bros apart by calling them “Tony Hawk” and “the other one”

I agree. Bryan is very much the cuter, quieter-so-far brother. Michael is the one whose lips always look pursed and he has constant five-o’clock shadow.

Weed’s assholish comment (OK, that’s redundant, because is there any other kind that spews forth from his mouth?) was something to the effect that ‘risotto’ is a ‘technique’ and NOT a dish. OH REALLY? It’s noun, DickWeed, not a verb. Oh, I want to smack him so badly.

Here’s how I keep the brothers straight: Bryan is the cuter one, Michael is the one with the mantan and spikier hair.

I also cannot understand Baby Doc. He’s a big man, obviously, but he talks like Tattoo on Fantasy Island.

I’d agree that Shiv seems like she’s already hitting on all cylinders as a professional chef, but she does still work for someone else. The main thing that stands between a great chef and his or her own restaurant is (1) capital and (2) sufficient biz to stay open until you can start making money (aka publicity). $100,000 and a Top Chef win goes a long way to solving or at least ameliorating both these problems.

The troop ass kissing got on my nerves too. I did hear one guy say something about being against being in Iraq, but it was so quickly glossed over. Why couldn’t we have some drama with Ashley saying this challenge made her uncomfortable because of the military policy on gays?

I think that quickfire winner/executive chef lady doesn’t need to be on this show. Her food seems consistently good. She seems incredibly posed and competent in the kitchen. Why does she need this show to succeed?
