Wok puns - yay! You like tofu now? *blinks* It does seem to go better in Asian dishes. Like dp, I'm freaked out by tofu-as-dairy-stand-in stuff. Thanks for the great tip about balsamic replacing black vinegar, too :D

Oh, ho ho!! Do you know what you just did? You just gave me fodder. I've been working on a Tofu Tribunal (finding ways to trick my beau, despite his irrational hatred for tofu in all forms, flavors and texture into eating it in some strange dish and admitting that he likes it) and so far I haven't had very much luck. Okay, more like no luck. But...but maybe this is my way! Maybe Martin Yan can help me wok in the sunlight once more!!

I didn't like tofu until about 2 months ago, when this wonderful amazing Thai place opened up the next town over. She makes this crispy fried tofu, just like yours (but darker hehe) and serves it with this sweet and spicy dipping sauce. Unbelievable goodness and it totally won me over. Glad you've been converted as well.

The picture of those chilis makes me happy. Want. Dish looks awesome.

And uh, nice Clue reference. Sorry you've been having so many damn difficulties. Technology blows sometimes.

I think Mott St south of Canal has always been a part of historical Chinatown, while north of Canal was originally part of Little Italy.

You are definitely right that a lot of what is north of Canal is now part of Chinatown, leading to/as a result of the shrinking of Little Italy. But I'd wager that the places Martin Yan recommends are all in old-school Chinatown.
